- What Act applies?
-
The Disability Discrimination Act 2005.
- Who does the DDA apply to?
-
The Disability Discrimination Act applies to all employers and persons who provide a service to the public, except for the Armed Forces.
- What is a DDA Assessment?
-
A purpose of a DDA assessment is to ascertain the suitability of a premise for use by employees, customers and visitors who suffer from a disability as defined in the Disability Discrimination Act.
- How often does a DDA Assessment have to be undertaken?
-
Once a DDA Assessment has been undertaken there is no need to repeat the exercise unless circumstances dictate. The DDA Assessment should be reviewed periodically, and the common practice is to do this on an annual basis. However should alterations be made to a property or if there is a change of use or a disabled person is employed then a new DDA Assessment should be undertaken.
- Who can undertake a DDA Assessment?
-
Most individuals using a simple checklist can usually undertake a basic DDA Assessment. However if a property is of a complex design, is large in size or is in heavily use then you may wish to employ a person with recognised training such as that delivered by The Centre for the Accessible Environment to undertake the DDA Assessment.
