Pressure Systems Safety Regulations 2000.

What is a Regular Examination?

It is the periodic examination of a pressure vessel to ensure that it is functioning in a manner that makes it is safe to use.

How often does a Regular Examination have to be undertaken?

The frequency of testing is subject to risk assessment. Prior to the use of a pressure vessel a competent person has to establish a written scheme for examination which will include the frequency of such examination.

What documentation should I receive on completion of a Regular Examination?

Upon completion of the exercise you should be presented with a written report detailing which parts of the pressure system have been examined, the condition of those parts and the results of the examination. If necessary a list of remedial works should be included detailing any issues that need to be attended to in order to bring the pressure vessel up to a satisfactory condition. In instances where the pressure vessel is in a condition that may endanger a person’s health and safety then the competent person shall issue a written report to the user with the relevant advice. Also within 14 days of the completion of the examination the competent person should send a written report containing the same particulars to the enforcing authority for the premises at which the pressure system is situated.

Who should undertake a Regular Examination?

This activity is specialised and only a competent person should undertake the task.
