Asbestos Awareness Training
Duration: 4 hours
Target Group: Asbestos awareness training is required to be given to employees whose work could foreseeably expose them to asbestos. In particular, it should be given to all demolition workers and those workers in the refurbishment, maintenance and allied trades where it is foreseeable that their work will disturb the fabric of the building because ACMs may become exposed at this time.
Aims: This training covers the requirements of Control of Asbestos Regulations 2012 – Regulation 10 – ACOP 126.
Course Content: This training covers the following topics in appropriate details, by means of both written and oral presentation, and by demonstration:
- The properties of asbestos and its effects on health, including the increased risk of lung cancer for asbestos workers who smoke;
- The types, uses and likely occurrence of asbestos and ACMs in buildings and plant;
- The general procedures to be followed to deal with an emergency, for example an uncontrolled release of asbestos dust into the workplace; and
- How to avoid the risks from asbestos, for example for building work, no employee should carry out work which disturbs the fabric of a building unless the employer has confirmed that ACMs are not present.
Eurosafe UK have many years experience of presenting training for all construction health and safety topics. As we undertake asbestos surveying, asbestos procurement and consultancy we can use our many years experience togive attendees anecdotal, interesting presentations with photographs and other supporting information. Our training is also targeted for the specific trade that a client organisation operates in. This
means that your operatives don’t sit through presentations that are not relevant to their profession. The duration of this course is approximately 4 hours and at the end of the course the attendee is required to undertake a simple test to ensure they have understood the salient points of this important subject matter. A certificate of completion is given to each attendee upon successfully passing the course. UKATA courses are also available if required.
Asbestos Awareness Refresher
Referesher training must be given to the individuals who have completed the Asbestos Awareness Course. This should be undertaken annually or as and when legislation changes. It may be part of a tool box talk or other Health and Safety training.
