Risk Assessments are the back bone to health and safety management within the workplace. Legally required by the Management of Health and Safety at Work Regulations, risk assessments must be recorded if you have five or more employees.
As part of the managing health and safety in your business you must control the risks in your workplace. To do this, consideration needs to be given about what could harm people and take reasonable steps to prevent that harm. This is what is known as a risk assessment. Using a 6×6 Probability and Severity matrix we establish either a one-off risk assessment or a library of qualitative and semi-quantitative risk assessments based on the hazard identification process and the HSE five Steps to Risk Assessment. During the hazard identification process we would work with management and the workforce to understand the activities undertaken, the associated hazards, who is at potential risk of harm, what the potential severity of harm would be, what control measures are in place and what more needs to be done.
