Principal Designer Role on Asbestos Projects
Eurosafe Plus provides Principal Designer services for asbestos remediation works. We provide competent support to enable them to comply with their duties under the Construction (Design and Management) Regulations 2015.
The CDM Regulations require where there is more than one contractor engaged on a project, that the client should appoint a Principal Designer and a Principal Contractor. These appointments must be made in writing. If these appointments are not made in writing then the client will take on the duties of both parties.
The Eurosafe Plus Principal Designer service also incorporates project management to ensure that clients projects are delivered not only to scope and programme, but also within legislative requirements. The Principal Designer service commences with formal appointment of Eurosafe Plus as PD. Responsible for managing the design risk process these services are conducted in parallel to the project management services. When works are tendered and appointments are to be made, Eurosafe Plus can assist the client in appointing the Principal Contractor under suitable formal appointment.
The design process requires the provision of a Pre-Construction Information pack (PCI), this also includes an adequate refurbishment and/or demolition survey. Also, where necessary, Eurosafe Plus will notify the enforcing body.
Eurosafe Plus then co-ordinate the design risk process, along with the client. We will also review and approve the Principal Contractors’ Construction Phase Plan (CPP). The ongoing review of the CPP is incorporated into the service with information gathered from the Project Management process. Any Site Safety Inspections undertaken throughout the project are considered ensuring all relevant factors are appropriately managed.
Eurosafe Plus are happy that a competent safety professional attending site meetings will mean that all relevant processes and documents are competently maintained on the clients behalf.
Following completion of the project the documentation is reviewed and both the Health and Safety File and the clients’ asbestos register is updated to reflect the works undertaken
